Spice and wolf review12/10/2023 ![]() Holo looks absolutely beautiful and the rest of the other cast seem to look decent enough, though the girls seem to be tad flashy. Somthing Spice and Wolf was infamous for was its use of describing economics instead of having Your boring History teacher, we have the Teachers animated! But, it does get tiring after listening a dragged out speech about economics that You soon forget about the next hour, fortunately, it does finally manage to fix that sort of pacing to be more tolerable soon enough.īrains Base seem to do a very well detailed job on immersing with its very clear and beautiful backgrounds, You see a healthy amount of orange flames emitted as light, a sharp blend of CGI and 2-D feel for most of the backgrounds (especially the old housing and infrastructure) though its very tolerable as it looks rather beautiful and still stands with modern day standards. Though season 2 seemed like the same thing, going near the end we all got p!ssed when I was about to give the show a higher score! To be honest, there was nothing much to talk about season 2 except for that badly written ending and that there closer to the North. Plot conveniences are there, but they don't seem to go as far to be so distracting, like how Holo gets a new pair of clothes and how she always seems to get the best ones because 80% realosm ans 20% plot convenience, but such events don't seem to be annoying in any way shape or form. and all of them seem to at least show some level of love interest to him. Wait, Lawrence has Holo, Chloey and Norah. ![]() I have a good feeling that Spice And Wolf, depsite how different it is to a lot of Romance Anime still has small signs of its Anime tropes (what do You expect something to be made in the 2000's?) like the Shepherd Girl who seems to just be this really kind person and seems to act in this near perfect manner, or how Lawrence's apprentice shows signs that she is in love with him. Sure, they are good side characters and some DEFINITLY, above average, however they do seem to have enough screen time to have nice grasp of there personality, though they seem to feel a bit too much like back drop at times. The plot will not be as strong as it will it ever be, and side characters don't have a great deal of personality or exploration for us to care too much about them, and this is probably the biggest grype of the cast, Holo and Lawrence just easily out shines every character in terms of depth, personality, interactions, reactions, complexity and many other major factors. Yes I am a Holo fanboy, and Lawrence, though fairly on par just doesn’t seem to be Holo's more equal counter part (in terms of critical standards go) ![]() The chemistry (wait, thats quite an overused term when You describe couples in reviews, let me change it to get out of the cliché plague a bit.) the writers conjuring alchemy blending the duo can make some really entertaining reactions, it has in some way a depth of realism, and Holo and Lawrence just simply being themselves as a happy couple is the biggest strength of the show, both in casuals, new fans, veterans, replay-value and the age of time will be given a pass for this. Holo and Lawrence are still one of the best romance couples I still know of to this day because Anime has this horrible tendency to make there couples either feel like one or two dimensional characters, or mass cloned from the Unholy Grail of 20th century Anime known as the Archetype Virus. and the intense moments when Holo and Lawence being no longer together for a while has just lost its effect, since the tension has shorten into a predictable e arch, any ways, the chemistry between the couple is so good that the show is probably going to hit sh*t ratings if they die too early. To be critical, I have re-watched some of the show for a bit of nostalgia *drum roll* beastiali- I mean the two just sitting down and talking all day. The two set off a journey filled with Drama, excitement, Tension and best of all. ![]() Holo then managed to persuade Lawrence into taking her in he's cart, so she can get to the North. In 1*whatever the date is in Europe* AD comes a travelling merchant (peddler) known as Lawrence, who all of a sudden saw a beautiful wolf Godess in he's cart at one night called Holo.
